Your files never leave your browser. Nothing is uploaded to us.

What it reads

Every document carries a record of how it was made.

Most of it is invisible in the document itself but sitting right there in the file. BadgerForensics reads it and lays it out plainly.

Producer & creator

The software that made the file: an accounting or payroll system, a scanner, a phone, or a design tool like Canva or Photoshop.

Dates

When the document was created and last saved, and how far apart those are (a sign of a reused template).

Identifiers

Internal document and instance IDs. When two files share one, one was usually saved from the other.

Edit history

Whether the file was saved more than once after it was first written, from its save generations and internal IDs.

Structure

Page count, embedded images, fonts, encryption, form fields and active content, straight from the file's layout.

Across a set

Drop a whole application package in at once and see shared IDs, clustered save times, and repeated authors.

Private by design

The check runs entirely in your browser using the file's own bytes. Your documents are never uploaded, never stored, and never seen by us. That matters when you're handling someone else's financial paperwork.

Honest about the limits

What it can and cannot tell you.

What this shows you

  • Who or what produced the file
  • When it was created and last modified
  • Whether it was edited after creation
  • Whether a set of files was made together
  • The file's internal structure and identifiers

It cannot tell you (this needs a person)

  • Whether the employer or vendor is real
  • Whether a GST or licence number is registered
  • Whether it's a true copy of a real record
  • Anyone's intent
  • A verdict on authenticity or fraud

Findings are technical indicators, not proof of anything, and never a statement about a person. Metadata can also be removed, so a clean read is not a guarantee. For decisions that matter, get a verified assessment.

FAQ

Common questions

How do I check a document's metadata for free?+

Drop any PDF, Office file, image or video onto BadgerForensics. It reads the file's embedded metadata - producer, dates, identifiers, camera details - right in your browser and lists it in plain language. Nothing is uploaded.

Can I see where a photo was taken?+

Yes. If a photo or video carries GPS data, BadgerForensics shows the exact coordinates, a rough place name worked out on your device, and a map link. Most phone photos include this unless it was stripped.

How can I tell if a PDF was edited or built from a template?+

The tool flags when a PDF was saved more than once after it was created, when its original and current identifiers differ, and when the creation and last-saved dates are far apart - all signs of editing or a reused template.

Does my file get uploaded anywhere?+

No. The entire check runs locally in your browser using the file's own bytes. Your documents never leave your device and are never sent to us or anyone else.

What file types can I check?+

PDFs, Word, Excel and PowerPoint files, images (JPEG, PNG, HEIC, TIFF), videos (MP4/MOV) and plain text - and it will read basic details from almost any file.

Can BadgerForensics prove a document is fake?+

No, and it never claims to. It reports technical facts and signals, not verdicts. To confirm whether a document is genuine, request a human assessment from CyberBadger.

For tenant applications, vendor invoices, or employment letters that need more than a metadata read, our team runs a deeper analysis and gives you a clear written assessment.
